Is something wrong with me that i feel this way?

There is nothing wrong with this. Unfortunately, from the sounds of what happened in your childhood, and how it is carrying on into your adult life, it sounds like you have what is known as PTSD, or post traumatic stress disorder. It has been mostly known to show up in soldiers returning from combat, and police precincts across the world, but it has been known to show up in people who grew up in very stressful environments. It's not a behavioral thing that you are only attracted to girls. It seems like it would have been how you would have grown up anyways. The stress from your family life has just built that into a feeling of safety when you are with other people of the same sex. It seems like that should make the love you feel for another woman stronger than you thought possible, though, so when you do settle down with someone, I'm sure it will be a very long and happy relationship,
