What are some creative outfits my date and I could wear to a Black and White ball?

This is for a work related black and white ball that is allowing more creative outfits (such as retro attire, rock and roll themed, and almost-costume-yet-still-formal wear) For example, we were thinking of dressing in ganster attire.. but that's kinda played out. Any creative ideas?
